Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Announced
Great news for Call of Duty fans as, announced today, Activision is working on another sequel to their hugely popular Call of Duty franchise which is set for release in Fall 2009.
The new title will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 making this next release CoD 6.
The game will be developed by Infinity Ward, and is “looking incredible” according to Activision CFO Thomas Tippl. While Speaking at the Wedbush Morgan Securities annual metting , Tippl said that Activisions “leap-frogging” development between Infinity Ward and Treyarch has been producing back to back blockbusters for them.
Infinity Ward’s previous game in the franchise, Call of Duty Modern Warfare was an epic hit in the gaming community selling over 10 million copies, and 1.5 million copies of the map pack addon DLC.
“Last year we had probably beaten most expert expectations by growing the Call of Duty franchise over the tremendous success that was the first iteration of Modern Warfare,” said Tippl. “For 2009, Modern Warfare is coming back, we expect it will be the most anticipated game of the year. Perhaps the number one game of the year despite the fact that it’s only going to launch in the holiday season.” Hopefully Cod6 Modern Warfare 2 will live up to these bold statements, as it will be quite an achievement to top the previous Call of Duty games, which provided amazing quality and overall experience.
“There is no doubt in my mind that it will again raise the bar for the shooter genre. The game is looking incredible and Infinity Ward, the studio that is developing it, is just doing an unbelievable job.” I’m sure all of you cannot wait to download the beta for this game, which should be available shortly before the Modern Warfare 2 release date if Infinity Ward’s previous games are any indication.
You will be able to pick up Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 in time for holiday season 2009.
